Others haven't even been properly tested. I believe more practical books exist that are not formatted as specific make or break health plans - plans in which the author is not selling the products recommended in his books.

For example, I like John Robins book, "Healthy at It's clear how these people achieve health and longevity, but the readers are left to contemplate how much of these healthy practices they can fit into their own lives. Shortcuts have never worked for me in anything.

I just find them to entail higher risks. I want to simply live as long as possible, and as healthy as possible - to the end of my life. I believe I can best achieve this by trying to live a lifestyle similar to people who actually do achieve this goal.

This was a repeat purchase for me as I have had Dr. Weil's books since they first came out, but a couple were lost during a move. Even if you don't follow his advice on everything, this book gives you a lot of good pointers for healthy living. I have never been able to attain the optimum, but I learned a lot about my body and nutrition, and good tips on trying to live stress-free and happy.

It is a good book to have handy to read about something that might be happening in your life, and you don't necessarily have to read it from cover to cover.

He lays out the eight weeks in order, but I use the book more as a reference. Over the years, I have read it all more than once. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in knowing more about themselves and how to reach for a healthier way of living.

Instead you should just ask your HMO why they don't suggest these things if they are really focused on prevention instead of intervention. The breathing exercises are truly great and I find them helpful whether in bed, on the job or out in the world.
